Maggona Sewing Group

<< Back to Projects List

The Maggona Sewing Group was set up in October 2008 with guidance from Colombo-based specialists. There were strengths and weaknesses to this set-up and Shoba Life to Hands took over local management responsibilities in 2009. Shoba has invested time and energy into the group and has now won their trust. Shoba provided the training for six months, using funds from Transrural Trust. Since then, a preliminary batch of patchwork quilts has been sold at Shoba display gallery with the money being put into the group account to reimburse raw material costs and with an agreed piece rate per woman being withdrawn and paid to the individual women.
