Mirissa Ladies Group

<< Back to Projects List

This project was started in 2011 with support from Transrural Trust to improve the livelihoods of the Mirissa ladies. The project has 68 members who are fisherman’s wives and families. We have taught them to make products that can be sold in tourist locations such as Mirissa, Galle, Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Kandy and Colombo. All the projects are designed by textile designer Laura Vann and made in the Shoba workshop before teaching the women to do it. They had training workshops twice a week and are provided with all their tools and raw materials.

They are making cushion covers, passport covers, bed covers, table cloths, door stops and Christmas decorations. All the products are available to buy at Shoba Life to Hands Gallery in Sri Lanka.
